The Koordinierungsstelle für die Erhaltung des schriftlichen Kulturguts (KEK) (Coordination Office for the Preservation of the Written Cultural Heritage) was established in 2011 with the backing of the federal and state authorities; it was set up at the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin – Preussischer Kulturbesitz (Berlin State Library – Prussian Cultural Heritage).

Funded by the Beauftragte der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien (BKM) (Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media) via the Ländergemeinschaft über die Kulturstiftung der Länder (KSL) (Cultural Foundation of the German States) together with the sixteen German states, the KEK has since achieved remarkable successes. The tenth anniversary is an occasion to review the results of its work on saving original written documents and to consider the future prospects.
