Encore! Winners of the 2021 Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Conservatory Competition

On 15 September 2021, awards were presented to the winners in the violin and piano trio categories. Congratulations from the SPK.
Text The 2021 Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Conservatory Competition reached a spectacular conclusion yesterday. This year, it was the turn of the violinists and the piano trios to compete. The prizewinners performed with the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, conducted by Felix Bender.
The first prize in the violin category went to Claire Wells from Cologne University of Music and Dance (HfMT Köln). She also received the special prize for the best interpretation of the set piece in the violin category. In the piano trio category, the Hannari Trio from Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts received the first prize.
The other prizewinners in this year's competition are: Gina Keiko Friesicke (violin, Federal President's Prize); Tassilo Probst (violin, Elsa Wera Arnold Foundation Prize); the Yugen Trio (piano trio, Federal President's Prize), and the E.T.A. Trio (piano trio, Elsa Wera Arnold Foundation Prize). The E.T.A. Trio also received the prize awarded by the Friends of Young Musicians in Germany. The special prize for the best interpretation of the set piece in the piano trio category went to the Orelon Trio (Berlin University of the Arts).
The competition is held by the Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbesitz (Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation), the Rectors' Conference of German Conservatories, and Berlin University of the Arts. The artistic director is Sebastian Nordmann, Director of the Konzerthaus Berlin. The patron of the competition is Andris Nelsons, Music Director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Gewandhauskapellmeister of the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig.
